an Acoustic Summer Perfume

A stretched yodeling choir – on the edge of stillness.


Harmony that carries, then dissolves into free calling, wild voicing.

Not entirely human:


voices blend with rustling, wingbeats, animal sounds.
Hybrid beings sing in tropical heat.

The sound lingers in the air like a scent –


fleeting, close, open to memory.

Wild Chorus is a breathing fabric of voices, noises, and electronic tones.


Through stretching, slowing down, and layering, a space emerges –
an open field for intuitive listening and personal resonance. 

Here, the human and the non-human meet,


sound and silence, closeness and strangeness. 

In the suspended flow of sound, a quiet counterpoint arises –


to the world’s tempo, to control, to clear boundaries.


A lingering act of listening – open to transformation and ambiguity.

Bernadette Johnson 
lives in Basel and works at the intersection of sound art and composition.
Her work is influenced by musique concrète and focuses on the atmospheric and emotional aspects of sound.

Wild Chorus is her fourth piece for ohrenhoch.

In her artistic practice, she explores the relationship between sound, space, memory, and perception. She understands sound as a carrier of traces and contexts that allow for individual associations in the act of listening.
She has been awarded, among others, the Karl Sczuka Prize for emerging artists and has received multiple recognitions from Phonurgia Nova.

Bernadette Johnson über ihr Stück "Wild Chorus" [Dauer 34:43]:

Ein gedehnter Jodelchor – am Rand des Stillstands.


Harmonie, die trägt und sich auflöst in freies Rufen, wildes Tönen.

Nicht ganz menschlich:

Stimmen vermischen sich mit Rascheln,


Flügelschlägen, tierischen Lauten.


Hybride Wesen singen in tropischer Hitze.

Der Klang steht wie ein Duft im Raum –


flüchtig, nah, offen für Erinnerung.

Wild Chorus ist ein atmendes Gewebe aus Stimmen, Geräuschen und elektronischen Klängen.


Durch Dehnung, Verlangsamung und Überlagerung entsteht ein Zwischenraum, ein offenes Feld für intuitives Lauschen und persönliche Resonanz.


Hier begegnen sich Menschliches und Nichtmenschliches, Klang und Stille,


Nähe und Fremdheit.

In der Schwebe des Klangs entsteht ein leiser Kontrapunkt 


zum Tempo der Welt, zu Kontrolle und klaren Grenzen.


Ein verweilendes Hören, offen für Wandel und Unschärfe.

Bernadette Johnson 
lebt in Basel und arbeitet an der Schnittstelle von Klangkunst und Komposition.
Ihre Arbeit ist geprägt von der Musique concrète und fokussiert auf die atmosphärischen und emotionalen Aspekte von Klang.

Wild Chorus ist ihre vierte Arbeit für ohrenhoch.

In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis untersucht sie die Verbindung zwischen Klang, Raum, Erinnerung und Wahrnehmung. Dabei versteht sie Klang als Träger von Spuren und Kontexten, die beim Hören individuelle Assoziationen ermöglichen.
Sie wurde unter anderem mit dem Karl-Sczuka-Förderpreis sowie mehrfach von Phonurgia Nova ausgezeichnet.
