'Strange' (2014)

layered recorded voice with processing

by Pamela Z

'Strange' - originally commissioned by Mary Armentrout Dance Theater - is a stereo sound work that involves a dense collage of time-expanded and time-compressed speech sounds.

Pamela Z composed 'Strange' as part of the score for 'Reveries and Elegies', Mary Armentrout’s site specific performance project – a shifting, wandering, accumulating, de- accumulating installation that explores change, loss, and dislocation. The track is composed entirely of samples of Armentrout's speaking voice, which Z has layered, stretched, squeezed, and dissected.

'Strange' is the third work by Pamela Z presented at the Sound Gallery 'ohrenhoch' in Berlin.
In October/November 2023 ohrenhoch presented her work 'Lift', in 2012 her work "A Piece of Pi" was presented as a world premiere
.
