Corvi ad crepusculum

(Crows at dusk)

von Pascale Trudel

After a 20 years absence, i went back to the family summer house. Every window still had spiders and moths, the crows were very loud at dusk, a chipmunk appeared from under the stairs, hummingbirds hovered around the flowers and an eagle flew by. The trees my grandparents planted more than half a century ago reached the sky, the St. Lawrence river was barely visible through the branches. On the other side of the house, at the end of the path, the endless wheat fields had been replaced by neat row houses, each with a SUV parked by the door.

This piece started as an improvisation played live on a green rooftop at sunset in October 2023 in Montreal, using the composer’s field recording of crows from the village of Beaumont. It has been remixed for Ohrenhoch in April 2024.
